1. How does Knowio work on farm land?
Knowio puts farm operators in control of remote gates, padlocks and access points across large land areas via an app, eliminating the need for physical keys or on-site attendance. Managers can give contractors temporary access, monitor the status of the gates in real-time and receive alerts if any entrance is left open.
2. Is Wi-Fi available at the farm gate to access Knowio?
Yes AccessIQ is a complete cellular LTE system using the Knowio Gateway. No Wi-Fi or mains power is required at the gate location, ideal for remote farmland.
3. Can Knowio notify me if a gate to a farm is left open?
Yes. Knowio can send notifications in real time if a gate or padlock has been left open for a defined amount of time, or if it is still open at a specific time of day. This is especially desirable for farms where physical checks are costly or impractical.
4. How does Knowio handle access for seasonal workers and contractors at a farm?
One-time pass codes can be generated and assigned to seasonal workers or contractors for temporary or one-time access. The passcode is invalid once expired, removing the risk of continued access after contract termination.
5. Can Knowio tell if a farm gate has been forced open?
Yes. The BLE contact sensor detects if a gate is physically open or closed and the smart padlock reports whether it was unlocked. If a gate is opened without the lock being opened, Knowio immediately sends an alert.
6. Can Knowio be used on off-grid agricultural sites?
Yes. AccessIQ is designed specifically for off-grid and remote deployments. The Gateway is battery powered with optional solar panel and connects over LTE CAT(M), NB-IoT or GPRS – no mains power or internet required.
7. Can Knowio handle multiple farm gates on a large property?
Yes. Knowio App and Portal allow you to manage multiple gates and padlocks, each with their own user permissions and alert settings. See all activity from one dashboard regardless of how many access points you have.
8. How will Knowio track security of fuel tank or storage on farm?
Yes. Smart padlocks can be put on fuel bowsers, storage containers and outbuildings to give the same real-time monitoring and access control as field gates.
9. How long does the battery last on Knowio hardware used on farms?
The Smart Padlock battery lasts about 12 months and can be recharged via USB-C. The BLE Contact Sensor lasts for about 24 months before the battery needs to be replaced. The Gateway includes an optional solar panel for off-grid 24/7 operation.
10. Is Knowio able to arm farm CCTV automatically?
Yes. Knowio can be configured to arm monitored CCTV when the final gate is secured at the end of day. Supported CCTV integrations include Hikvision, Dahua, Ajax, Davantis and Ganz AI Box.
11. Is Knowio hardware appropriate for outdoor agriculture environments?
Yes. All Knowio hardware is IP67 rated, meaning it is waterproof and can withstand harsh outdoor conditions including rain, mud and the temperature extremes often found in agricultural settings.
12. Can Knowio provide audit trail of who accessed farm gates?
Yes. Each access event is logged, complete with time stamp and user ID. This provides farm operators with a complete record of access activity that can be useful for compliance, insurance and security incident investigation.
