1. How does Knowio work for self-storage facilities?
Knowio provides self-storage operators with app-based control of site gates, unit padlocks and monitored CCTV. Tenants can be given individual digital access, while managers can remotely manage permissions, monitor access activity and receive real-time security alerts without requiring staff to be permanently on-site.
2. Can tenants access their storage units without physical keys?
Yes. Tenants can unlock their units using the Knowio App via Bluetooth or by entering a unique PIN on the Smart Padlock’s built-in keypad. This removes the need for physical keys.
3. Can Knowio limit each tenant’s access to their own storage unit?
Yes. Access permissions are assigned individually to each user and linked to the gates, units or areas they are authorised to access. Tenants cannot use their digital credentials to unlock unauthorised areas, and each authorised access event is automatically logged.
4. Can Knowio alert me if a storage unit door is left open?
Yes. A BLE Contact Sensor can monitor whether a storage unit door or site gate is open or closed, while the Smart Padlock reports its lock status. Knowio can send real-time alerts if an entrance remains open beyond a defined period or is still open at a specified time, such as site closing time.
5. Can a self-storage facility use Knowio without having staff on-site?
Yes. Knowio is designed to support unstaffed and remotely managed self-storage sites. Access can be granted, updated or revoked remotely at any time, while activity is automatically recorded and available through the Knowio App and Portal.
6. Can Knowio automatically arm CCTV when a self-storage site is secured?
Yes. Knowio can be configured to arm or disarm compatible monitored CCTV systems based on site access events, such as a gate being closed or a Smart Padlock being secured. This reduces the need for staff to arm the system manually.
7. How does Knowio provide temporary access for self-storage customers?
Temporary access can be provided by generating and sending one-time or time-limited passcodes to tenants and approved visitors. Once a passcode has been used or has expired, it becomes invalid and cannot be reused.
8. Can Knowio manage access across multiple self-storage locations?
Yes. Self-storage operators can use the Knowio App and Portal to manage access permissions, users and monitoring across multiple locations from one dashboard.
9. Does Knowio work at self-storage sites without mains power or Wi-Fi?
Yes. AccessIQ is designed for off-grid applications and uses LTE cellular connectivity with battery-powered hardware. This means no mains power, Wi-Fi or fixed internet connection is required at the relevant gate location.
10. Does Knowio track tenant access activity?
Yes. Each access event is timestamped and associated with a specific user. Operators can view a complete audit trail through the Knowio Portal to support security monitoring, access management and dispute resolution.
11. What hardware does Knowio use to secure self-storage facilities?
Knowio uses the ION controller for electric site gates, the Smart Padlock for individual storage units and manual gates, and the BLE Contact Sensor to monitor open and closed status. The hardware is designed for outdoor use and is IP67-rated.
