1. How does Knowio support forestry and estate management?
Knowio gives forestry and estate operators remote control of gates, Smart Padlocks and access points across large land portfolios. Managers can provide employees and contractors with controlled access, remotely monitor gate status and receive real-time alerts when an entrance is opened unexpectedly or left open.
2. Can Knowio manage remote forestry gates without Wi-Fi or fixed internet?
Yes. AccessIQ uses cellular connectivity through the Knowio Gateway, so no Wi-Fi or fixed internet connection is required at the gate. Remote monitoring and alerts remain available wherever compatible mobile network coverage is available.
3. Can Knowio alert me if a forestry gate is left open?
Yes. Knowio can send real-time alerts if a gate remains open beyond a specified period or is still open at a particular time, such as the end of the working day. It can also report when a Smart Padlock remains unsecured.
4. How can Knowio reduce physical gate inspections?
Knowio allows forestry and estate managers to check the status of connected gates, sensors and Smart Padlocks remotely through the Knowio App or Portal. This reduces the need to travel to remote locations simply to confirm whether a gate is open, closed, locked or unlocked.
5. Can Knowio control contractor access to forestry land?
Yes. Contractors can be issued one-time or time-limited passcodes for specific locations. Passcodes automatically become invalid after use or expiry, helping ensure contractors have access only when and where it is required.
6. Can Knowio be used at off-grid forestry sites?
Yes. AccessIQ is designed for off-grid and remote deployments. The Gateway is battery-powered, supports an optional solar panel and connects using LTE-M, NB-IoT or GPRS, so no mains power, Wi-Fi or fixed internet infrastructure is required at the gate.
7. Can Knowio detect if a forestry gate has been forced open?
Yes. The BLE Contact Sensor monitors whether a gate is physically open or closed, while the Smart Padlock reports whether it has been unlocked. If the gate opens without an authorised padlock event, Knowio can immediately send an alert.
8. Is Knowio hardware suitable for outdoor forestry environments?
Yes. Knowio hardware is IP67-rated, providing protection against dust and water ingress and making it suitable for demanding outdoor forestry and estate environments, including exposure to rain and mud.
9. Can Knowio manage multiple gates across a large estate?
Yes. Multiple gates, Smart Padlocks and sensors can be managed through a single Knowio App or Portal dashboard. Each access point can have its own user permissions, alert settings and activity records.
10. Can Knowio arm and disarm CCTV at a forestry site?
Yes. Knowio supports automatic CCTV arming and disarming with compatible systems from Hikvision, Dahua, Ajax, Davantis and Ganz AI Box. CCTV actions can be triggered by configured site access events, such as an authorised gate opening or the site being secured.
11. How long do Knowio batteries last in forestry environments?
The Smart Padlock provides up to 12 months of use on a charge and can be recharged via USB-C. The BLE Contact Sensor has a battery life of up to five years. Battery levels can be viewed in the Knowio App, and the Gateway supports an optional solar panel for continuous off-grid operation.
12. Does Knowio support forestry and estate security compliance?
Yes. Knowio maintains a timestamped audit trail of access events associated with connected gates and Smart Padlocks. This provides a verifiable record of who accessed each location and when, helping support internal security procedures, compliance reporting and insurance investigations.
