Off-Grid Gates. On-Grid Knowledge.
AccessIQ is the world's first system to combine padlock status and physical open/close detection into a single, always-on, off-grid security platform.

A World First.
Lock Status and Open/Close Detection.
Combined. Always on. Anywhere.
Combined. Always on. Anywhere.
The Smart Padlock tells you whether it's locked or unlocked.
The Contact Sensor tells you whether the gate, door, or container is physically open or closed.
Together, they deliver something no other system can — complete certainty about the true state of every access point.
If a gate opens but the padlock is untouched, AccessIQ knows immediately — and raises an alert signalling a near-certain breach.
Alerts route directly to third-party monitoring stations, putting professional response capability behind every site you manage, however remote.
“If the sensor triggers and the padlock doesn't — AccessIQ knows.”

1. What is AccessIQ?
AccessIQ is Knowio's off-grid access control solution. It combines the Smart Padlock, BLE Contact Sensor, and Gateway to provide real-time monitoring of padlock and gate status on remote sites without mains power or fixed internet.
2. Does AccessIQ work off-grid?
Yes. AccessIQ is specifically designed for remote and off-grid deployments. The Gateway is battery-operated and connects via LTE CAT(M), NB-IoT, or GPRS, eliminating the need for mains power or fixed internet at the gate location. A solar panel can be added to keep the Gateway charged continuously.
3. What gate types does AccessIQ support?
AccessIQ is designed for manual gates, containers, fuel bowsers, cages, and any non-electric access point where a smart padlock can be fitted. For electric gates, the ION controller is used instead.
4. How does AccessIQ connect to a monitoring centre?
The Gateway sends real-time status updates from the Smart Padlock and BLE Contact Sensor to the Knowio cloud via cellular connectivity. Alerts including gate left open and tamper events can be routed directly to third-party monitoring stations and ARCs.
5. What is the battery life of AccessIQ hardware?
The Smart Padlock has a battery life of approximately 12 months and uses a rechargeable battery. The BLE Contact Sensor lasts approximately 24 months, after which the sensor needs to be replaced. The Gateway is battery-operated with optional solar panel support.
6. What is the IP rating for AccessIQ hardware?
All AccessIQ hardware is IP67 rated, making it suitable for outdoor use in harsh weather conditions. The Smart Padlock is also IP68 rated, providing full waterproofing for the most demanding outdoor environments.
7. Can AccessIQ detect if a gate is forced open without the padlock being unlocked?
Yes. The Smart Padlock reports whether it is locked or unlocked, while the BLE Contact Sensor reports whether the gate is physically open or closed. If the gate opens but the padlock is not unlocked, AccessIQ detects this immediately and raises an alert indicating a likely breach.
8. Can the Smart Padlock keypad be used to arm and disarm CCTV?
Yes. With the Gateway in place, the integrated keypad on the Smart Padlock can be used to arm and disarm monitored CCTV systems, creating a fully connected access and monitoring workflow at off-grid and remote sites.
9. What connectivity does the AccessIQ Gateway use?
The Gateway connects via LTE CAT(M) as the primary connection, NB-IoT as the secondary, and GPRS as the fallback. It does not use Wi-Fi. This cellular-first approach ensures connectivity on remote sites where fixed internet is not available.
10. Can AccessIQ send alerts if a padlock is left open?
Yes. Knowio can send real-time alerts if a padlock is left open beyond a defined time threshold, or if it is still open at a specified time of day. This is particularly useful for remote sites where a physical check is not practical.
11. Can temporary access be issued to contractors using AccessIQ?
Yes. One-time passcodes can be generated in the Knowio App and issued to contractors or visitors for single-use or time-restricted access. Once used or expired, the passcode becomes invalid, removing the need for physical keys or shared codes.
12. What is the difference between AccessIQ and ION?
AccessIQ is designed for manual and off-grid gates where there is no mains power or fixed internet. It uses the Smart Padlock, BLE Contact Sensor, and Gateway with cellular connectivity. ION is Knowio's controller for powered electric gates, barriers, lights, and sounders, connecting via LAN. Both can be deployed independently or alongside each other.
