Use wireless keypads
Robust, secure and easy to deploy, the wireless keypads are battery operated and can be deployed wherever you want, potentially not even well before the gate itself.
Use wired keypads
Connect in wired keypads, hence allowing for the restriction of certain people to only be able to open gates if physically present.

Flic Bluetooth button integration
We integrated with Flic.io in order to allow for phone free gate control.
Wireless Bluetooth Sensors
As well as wired inputs, these wireless sensors can be used to give you status of any gate or any container within a 40 meter range. Quickly installed and a with a long battery life, its ideal for otherwise unmonitored entrances like pedestrian gates.

KNOWIO IONs control gates; basic users can pulse open gates via Bluetooth. Managers can latch gates open remotely.
Visitors access via One Time Passcodes. Temporary users have auto-expiration access, and entry depends on available parking spaces.
Lights activate for 30 mins at night when cars access. Sensors report to an Alarm Receiving Centre if gates are open late.
Portal Security in Scotland use ION to give a unique solution to Currie European, who wanted to maintain site security will allowing trucks to come and go at night.
All drivers have access to the main gate via a tablet in the cab. They can only open the gate when they are physically in front of it.
When the gate is opened, the security system in the main yard disarms for 15 minutes to allow the driver to park up and get out of the cab.
Lights are switched on for 30 minutes, to allow for safe navigation in the yard.
RED CCTV uses ION to create a state-of-the-art seamless security solution for their high net worth clients.
Clients can live-view their cameras, open/close the gate, control the security system and outer lights from anywhere in the world.
When the gate is opened, only the cameras along the corridor to the house are temporarily disarmed, to reduce unnecessary activations to the Control Centre, while maintaining the perimeter in tact. The corridor then re-arms once residents are inside or have left the property.
Security lights instantly auto switch on when an intruder is detected on the grounds.

1. What is the Knowio ION controller?
ION is Knowio's powered IoT controller for electric gates, barriers, lights, sounders, and other connected devices. It connects via LAN and supports up to 4 outputs and 8 inputs, allowing businesses to automate and remotely control multiple site systems from one app and portal.
2. How does the ION controller connect to electric gates?
ION connects to electric gate automation hardware via its output terminals. Once wired in, gates can be opened, closed, and monitored remotely through the Knowio App or Portal via the internet or Bluetooth. No GSM dialer or fob is required.
3. What outputs does ION support?
ION supports up to 4 outputs, making it suitable for controlling electric gates, barriers, lights, sounders, and other automation systems simultaneously from a single controller.
4. Can ION restrict certain users to local gate access only?
Yes. ION supports location-based access restrictions. Users can be configured to only open a gate when they are physically present at the site via Bluetooth, while users with higher permissions can open gates remotely via the internet.
5. Does ION support one-time passcodes for temporary access?
Yes. One-time passcodes can be generated and issued remotely through the Knowio App or Portal for one-off or time-restricted access. Once used or expired, the passcode becomes invalid.
6. Can ION integrate with smart padlocks?
Yes. ION includes Bluetooth capability that allows it to listen to Knowio and Igloo Smart Padlocks. This enables smarter access workflows, such as restricting electric gate access to users who are physically present at the gate, or triggering gate events based on padlock activity.
7. Can ION automate CCTV arming and disarming?
Yes. ION can be configured to trigger CCTV arm and disarm events based on gate activity. For example, opening a gate in the morning can automatically disarm a monitored CCTV system, and closing it at night can re-arm it.
8. What smart automations does ION support?
ION supports an array of smart rules and scheduled automations, including auto-close timers, timed access windows, location-based restrictions, output triggers based on input events, and scheduled arming and disarming of connected systems.
9. Does ION work with existing gate automation hardware?
Yes. ION connects to existing electric gate motors and automation hardware via its output terminals. It does not replace the gate motor itself but adds smart control, remote access, and monitoring capability on top of existing infrastructure.
10. Can ION be controlled via the Knowio Portal as well as the app?
Yes. ION can be controlled and monitored through both the Knowio App on mobile and the Knowio Portal on desktop, giving administrators, control room operators, and site managers full visibility and control from any device.
11. How does ION differ from AccessIQ?
ION is designed for powered electric gates and connected site systems with a LAN connection. AccessIQ is designed for manual and off-grid gates using the Smart Padlock, BLE Contact Sensor, and Gateway with cellular connectivity. The two solutions address different infrastructure needs and can be deployed independently or together.
12. What industries use ION for gate control?
ION is used across construction sites, self-storage facilities, motor groups, sports clubs, utilities, forestry and estate management, and any business that manages electric gates across one or more sites. It is particularly suited to operations that need scalable, remote access control without keys, fobs, or GSM dialers.
