When do I need a Gateway?
The Gateway has two principal uses. Firstly, it "listens" to the padlock for events. This means that any time a padlock is opened using the keypad, that the event is immediately registeted in the Knowio cloud.This in turn means that security systems can be disarmed in real-time via opening the lock with the passcode, in the same way it can be done via the app. It also gives real-time padlock status, so you always know if it is closed properly, or not. This allows notifications to be created in such an event. It will soon also be used to recieve signals from our next gen contact sensor too.
Does the gateway need access to mains power to operate?
No, it is a rechargeable battery much like the padlock. It is also recharged with a USB-C cable. You can also connect a solar panel which generally keeps the gateway powered continually.
Does Inniovate supply the solar panel for the Gateway?
Yes, we provide this solar panel.
I cannot connect a solar panel or power source. How long will the battery last on the gateway?
It depends on strength of connectivity in the area and how cold it is. However, as a rule of thumb, approx. 3-6 months. We recommend using the solar panel with it, which keeps it powered up continually.
How does the gateway communicate to the Knowio Cloud?
The Gateway uses IOT connectivity to connect to the cloud. IT has its own sim card and does not rely on wifi.
How close does the padlock need to be to the gateway?
The padlock needs to be within 12 metres of the padlock in order to communicate with it.
Does the gateway have a tamper alert?
Yes, any time the gateway is moved it will create a tamper alert in the app. This tamper can also be sent to 3rd party monitoring stations.
