2. How does app-based gate control work with Knowio?
Knowio's app allows you to open, close, and manage gates directly from your smartphone. You can add or remove users instantly, set permissions for who can open or latch gates, and even restrict access based on location. The app also supports one-time passcodes (OTPs) and works offline via Bluetooth, ensuring reliable access anytime.
3. What are smart padlocks for gates, and why are they useful?
Knowio's smart padlocks use wireless technology like Bluetooth and keypads for secure access. They are ideal for outdoor environments such as construction sites, storage yards, and agricultural properties. These padlocks provide complete activity tracking and can be managed through the Knowio app, reducing the risk of unauthorized entry and eliminating the need for physical keys.
4. Can electric gates be controlled remotely with Knowio?
Yes. By using ION, the Knowio Controller, electric gates can be directly controlled by the app via the internet or Bluetooth, by the portal and even by passcodes. This means that you can restrict certain people to be able to only open if they are local to the gate, or give remote access to people with higher permissions, and even remotely give One Time Passcodes for one off access requirements.
5. What is cloud-based gate management, and how does it benefit businesses?
Cloud-based gate management centralizes access control for all your sites. With Knowio, you can monitor multiple gates, review activity logs, and update user permissions from one dashboard. 7. Can Knowio send an alert if a gate is left open?
Yes. Knowio can send real-time alerts if a gate or padlock is left open beyond a defined time threshold, or if it is still open at a specified time of day. This is particularly useful for remote sites where a physical check is not practical.
8. What is the difference between ION and AccessIQ for gate control?
ION is Knowio's controller for electric gates, barriers, lights, and sounders. It connects via a LAN connection and supports up to 4 outputs. AccessIQ is designed for manual and off-grid gates where there is no mains power or fixed internet. It combines the Smart Padlock, BLE Contact Sensor, and Gateway to provide real-time gate and padlock status using cellular connectivity.
9. Can Knowio detect if a gate has been forced open?
Yes. The BLE Contact Sensor detects whether a gate is physically open or closed, while the Smart Padlock reports whether it has been unlocked. If a gate opens without the padlock being unlocked, Knowio detects this immediately and raises an alert indicating a likely breach.
10. Does Knowio work for off-grid gates without mains power or internet?
Yes. The AccessIQ system is specifically designed for remote and off-grid deployments. The Gateway operates on battery power and connects via LTE CAT(M), NB-IoT, or GPRS, so there is no requirement for mains power or fixed internet at the gate location. A solar panel can be added to keep the Gateway charged continuously.
11. Can temporary access be issued to contractors for gate entry?
Yes. One-time passcodes can be generated in the Knowio App and issued to contractors or visitors for single-use or time-restricted access. Once used or expired, the passcode becomes invalid, removing the need for physical keys or shared codes.
12. Can opening a gate automatically disarm a monitored CCTV system?
Yes. Knowio connects gate access events with CCTV monitoring workflows. When an authorised user opens a gate via the app or a passcode, the monitored CCTV system can automatically disarm. When the gate is secured again, monitoring resumes, removing the need for manual arm and disarm.
