Do I need to pay to get the Knowio app?

No, the app is free to download from either store. You can see the links to the relevant store at the bottom of this page.

No, you can login when offline. Naturally to change the status of a site or a controller, or to see how Anywhere Sensors have changed status, you must be online. However you can open smart locks while offline. You also must be online to generate access codes for padlocks or key boxes.

How many locks, controllers sensors can be assigned to a give site?

Each site can have 1 controller, up to 4 smart locks (if no controller present) and can take in up to 8 sensors.

How do I invite new users to the Knowio app?

I have the lock in front of me and the app open, but the padlock icon is dull. What is wrong?

Double check that you have Bluetooth activated on your phone and the app has been given relevant permissions to use it, otherwise the app cannot communicate with the lock in question.

Yes, you can unlink a padlock/keybox from one site within the devices section within a site. Simply tap the delete button on the device that you want to move and it will be removed from the site in question. Then go to the site that you want to add it to, again go to devices and now add it to that site by clicking the add button on the top right corner. Select padlock or keybox from the list, then select the output you want to add it to (you can change the name after (see two questions down) and when prompted press the button on the padlock. A passcode can only make a rule work if a Knowio Gateway is in the vicinity of the padlock. The padlock does not have a sim card in it. However, if a Knowio Gateway is within 12.5 metres of the padlock, it can “listen” to the padlock and send on information to the Knowio Cloud in order to allow rules to work.

The locks can store 299 offline openings in its memory. So, for example, if you have 10 people per day opening the locks only with pins, and no one with the app, then its important that someone goes to the lock once a month and opens it in order to download these logs and get them into the system.

I am unable to close the shackle to lock the padlock, what do I do?

Do an unlock via an access code or Bluetooth and try to close the shackle again. Note that you might accidentally lock the padlock manually by holding the UNLOCK button for 2 seconds when the padlock is open.

It is important for users to keep an eye on this, as for example if a padlock shows 30% battery left, but the last recording was dated 6 months ago, then the battery will likely be flat when the next person wants to open a site.

A lot of Android mobile phones allow you to charge a device with their power, which can be useful if you have forgotten a portable battery charger. Select padlock or keybox from the list, then select the output you want to add it to (you can change the name after (see two questions down) and when prompted press the button on the padlock. Almost. The only things it is not possible to do via the portal is either add smart locks to the system for the first time or direclty open locks, both which need to have Bluetooh functionality only available in a smartphone.

The portal is a powerful admin tool, with a number of features that do not exist in the app. You can view all your smart locks by site and order them by battery life, mass add or remove sites to user profiles, group sites together and a lot of other admin tasks, which are much quicker done in the portal than in the app.
